Steel Piers

Steel Piers for Foundation Repair in Dallas–Fort Worth

Introduction

Steel piers represent one of the deepest and most durable foundation repair methods available, making them ideal for homes experiencing significant or long-term settlement. In the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where expansive clay can cause repeated cycles of movement, steel piers provide the strength and depth needed to reach stable soil far below the active zone. Brown Foundation Repair uses this system when a home requires maximum reinforcement and when long-term structural stability is the top priority.

What Are Steel Piers?

Steel piers are composed of interlocking steel segments that are driven deep into the ground using hydraulic pressure. Unlike concrete pilings, steel pier sections are slimmer and heavier, allowing them to penetrate further and reach stronger soil layers. The result is a steel column that bypasses the active clay zone and anchors the home into firm, load-bearing material well below the depth where seasonal moisture affects the soil.

Why Steel Piers Are Ideal for DFW Homes with Major Settlement

Homes with significant settlement, large brick separations, heavy structural loads, or wide elevation variations benefit from the depth steel piers can achieve. Because they reach deeper, more stable soil layers, steel piers deliver unmatched performance in areas affected by severe clay shrinkage. This makes them especially useful for older homes, two-story homes, properties on slopes, and structures experiencing long-term or progressive settlement.

When Our Team Recommends Steel Piers

Steel piers are recommended when symptoms suggest that shallower systems may not provide sufficient stability. These symptoms may include large diagonal cracks, noticeable floor slope, gaps between brick and trim, or areas of the home that continue to sink or lift unevenly. If the soil profile beneath your home requires deeper penetration than concrete systems can achieve, steel piers offer the consistent, long-term support needed to stabilize the structure permanently.

The Brown Method: Our Approach to Steel Pier Installation

Brown’s steel pier installations focus on depth, alignment, and slow, controlled driving. We never force or rush the pier as it advances. Our team spends more time per pier than volume-based contractors, ensuring every section locks together properly, every pier reaches stable strata, and every bracket is set with precision. This careful, methodical approach reflects Brown’s long-standing commitment to quality and is one reason homeowners across Dallas–Fort Worth trust us with serious settlement repairs.

How Steel Piers Are Installed

The installation process begins with a structural evaluation and elevation assessment to determine where support is needed. Access holes are created, and hydraulic equipment drives steel pier sections deep into the ground until firm, load-bearing soil is reached. Once depth is confirmed, a foundation bracket is secured beneath the beam. Elevation adjustments may be made if recommended to help recover lost height. After installation is complete, the site is restored and cleaned, leaving behind a stable, long-lasting support system designed to withstand North Texas soil movement.

Major thanks to Lee for evaluating our home, preparing a budget-friendly quote and scheduling our foundation... repair. The crew arrived on time, Noe and Adan, answered our questions and offered information on what to expect after the work was completed. I am impressed by the care that was taken during this process: planning, working and clean up. I have already recommended Brown foundation repair to a family member.read more

Brown Foundation was fantastic. They saved our foundation (and wood flooring) from needing repair by... installing a proper drainage system around the house. It was pricy, but not nearly as pricy as the foundation/flooring repair would be five months down the road! Our supervisor Harold was great. He came out to our property several times to answer my many questions and make sure we were getting exactly what we needed. The work was neat and well-done. The only issue we had was not being told we needed electric work (it was on the estimate but not discussed, and we had to make a few calls to get it to happen) and the original placement of the pop-up valve was unwise (pooled water on the sidewalk instead of draining to the street). But any home project will have some bumps and miscommunications - the big difference is that Brown fixed these problems quickly and professionally. Wendell was especially helpful in fixing the back end of the project.Photos: note the muddy part of water pooling in our yard and into our foundation in the “before”, versus after.read more
