Surface Drain
Surface Drains
Surface drains are designed to collect standing water from low spots in the yard, near the foundation, or around walkways and patios. In Dallas-Fort Worth, where clay soil causes water to pool instead of absorbing quickly, surface drains help prevent flooding, soggy landscaping, pest activity, and long-term foundation movement.
Brown Foundation Repair installs surface drains to redirect water away from your home and reduce the strain on soil and structural components.
Surface drainage often works in combination with French drains or channel drains.
Why Surface Water Is a Problem
- Pooling water can soften soil around the foundation
- Excess moisture increases risk of slab movement
- Damp areas attract mosquitoes and pests
- Mud and erosion damage landscaping and curb appeal
- Standing water can seep into crawl spaces or garages
A properly designed surface drain captures water where it collects and moves it to a safe discharge point.
How Surface Drains Work
We install grated collection boxes (also called catch basins) in low areas of the yard or near downspouts. These drains connect to underground piping that transports water away from the home and out to a lower-elevation outlet.
Installation Process
- Identify low areas and water flow patterns on the property.
- Install catch basins and connect them to underground piping.
- Route the pipe to a termination point such as the street curb or drainage swale.
- Backfill, level, and restore the lawn.
Once installed, surface drains immediately improve yard usability and help protect the foundation from moisture-related issues.
